A person who wakes in the morning to find that their eyelashes are matted may be experiencing a blepharitis infection. This condition is quite common and there are actually two different variations of the problem. The most common of these conditions is posterior blepharitis and is usually related to an underlying skin condition. However, there is another form of blepharitis that is caused by bacteria. This is called anterior blepharitis and can be quite severs. Many patients report eye pain that can be accompanied by a reduction in the ability to see properly. Currently there is no cure for blepharitis and sufferers will need to keep an eye on the condition to prevent outbreaks from becoming severe. The area should be washed on a regular basis to keep the pores open and to remove any skin crust or flaking around the eyes. This is best accomplished by using warm water with a few drops of facial soap or baby shampoo. If the patient is already experiences eye redness and swelling, a local doctor will need to be consulted in most cases. The physician will prescribe a topical antibiotic or antibiotic drops to be used two to three times per day to take care of the infection. If the problem has not cleared up within a few weeks of beginning treatment, it can cause a stye or chalazion in the eye. In these cases, surgery may be needed to remove the eyelid infection blepharitis.
A blepharitis eye infection is caused by the Staphylococcal bacteria and can occur with a wide range of severity levels. The bacteria attacks the pores found in a person’s eyelids and lid margins, creating pockets of blepharitis eye infection in the eye. The condition can get rapidly worse, with symptoms mounting up as the infection spreads. Many patients complain of feeling that a foreign body is in the eye. In addition, this feeling is often accompanied by a burning sensation and a yellow or green discharge from the eye. Blepharitis infection can produce unattractive eyes from time to time, but proper management of the condition can keep outbreaks to a minimum.
